Jonathan Meersman
President
What do the Commodore 64 and the Apple IIe have in common? At one point in our recent past, they were the emerging technology tools of choice by Jonathan Meersman, Emerging Technology Guru. He now prefers his Blackberry and Tablet PC.
Jonathan Meersman earned his Master of Business Administration Degree, with a focus in eBusiness, from the University of Phoenix. He founded his own eBusiness in 2003. Hosting Spot, Inc. (HostingSpot.net) is a web hosting company specializing in servicing members of the educational community and non-profit organizations, though it has quickly grown to service the needs of many individuals and small to medium-sized businesses. Jonathan earned his Bachelor's Degree in Geography, with an emphasis on computer cartography, from University of Cincinnati. While others in his program completed traditional electives, Jonathan took courses in the College of Education.
Jonathan is a Certified Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 Developer. In addition, Jonathan has delivered numerous presentations at national conferences, seminars, workshops, clinics, courses, and other special events. His public speaking endeavors have taken him all over the United States.
Jonathan was hired as a full time faculty member at Milwaukee Area Technical College in April of 2001, in the eCommerce/Web Administration Program. Partnering with a major textbook publisher and computer manufacturer, he participated on MATC's Mobile Learning Project; a research project that investigated the effects of mobile computing on education, and developed ways to make digital content readily available for students utilizing such tools. The led to the development of an Advanced Technical Certificate in Mobile Commerce. He teaches the following courses (not all at the same time):
Emerging Technologies Electronic Commerce Web Site Development Commerce-Based Web Design Advanced Web Page Scripting Web Programming with JavaScript Web Development for Mobile Devices Introduction to Digital Media Interactive Design for Multimedia
Prior to his position with MATC, Jonathan worked as an eLead Systems Designer in the Learning Solutions division of GE Healthcare (formerly GE Medical Systems). He managed various multimedia projects in the areas of desktop publishing, video and television production, and web site development and management. His final project with GE incorporated all of these skills in the design of web site that brought training video clips to the Internet in a database-driven environment, sold to customers by subscription using proprietary methods that earned the company a patent. It was a great experience, but his heart led him back to the classroom.
Volunteerism and charitable contributions are very important components of Jonathan's life. He donates time, web design or hosting services, and/or money to several non-profit organizations, including: the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, United Way of Wisconsin, United States Soccer Federation, Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association, Wisconsin Program for Referee Development, Zoological Society of Milwaukee, Friends of Channels 10&36, among many others.
In a volunteer role, Jonathan is Wisconsin's State Director of Instruction for the United States Soccer Federation's National Program for Referee Development. He oversees a staff of 60 classroom instructors. He is responsible for the training and development of the instructors who teach referees in the classroom. The organization conducts approximately 150 clinics and workshops every year.
Jonathan served as a columnist for Referee Magazine, a nationwide sports magazine, for over seven years. He was a contributing author to three books, published by the same organization who publishes the magazine.
Although this paragraph is last, family is the most important component of Jonathan's life. Jonathan and Sarah were married in April of 1998. They are the proud parents of Philip (born 1999), Leah (born 2001), and Jeffrey (born 2002) - there are 19 months between each. Sarah is a full time stay-at-home mom. In their spare time, they both referee soccer - at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels. They also enjoy traveling. When they were married, they agreed to take one trip outside of the U.S. per year. So far, they've achieved that with trips to the Caribbean, Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, and Mexico.
