In 1982, Wendy Young began her career as a computer programmer. Although she was enthusiastic about the work itself, she was soon hit with the physical discomforts of doing computer work. “I was short, the furniture didn’t fit me and the computer screen sent me to the eye doctor for glasses! This caused my productivity to slip and I was feeling guilty. I changed careers and became a salesperson for a computer supply and business forms company.”
With a desire to set out on her own, Wendy went into business for herself in 1984 selling computer supplies and accessories to local business. She was indoctrinated into the health benefits of Ergonomics when in 1991, an acquaintance showed her a wrist rest, back cushion, foot rest and glare screen. Wendy was immediately inspired; “I knew this was my new business path!”
Aware that people didn’t possess a full understanding of the value of an Ergonomic lifestyle, Wendy started offering free in-house demonstrations and “lunch bag” consulting sessions for various companies around Houston, and it worked! These complimentary evaluations really shed some light on the benefits of Ergonomic Products in the workplace, and how they actually increase productivity for employers. By improving posture, breathing, and circulation, you eliminate employee fatigue, cramping, muscle tension, and injury on the job; thereby creating a more positive and more productive work environment.
Due to the pioneering nature of Wendy Young’s business, word of mouth began to spread and by the spring of 1992, large Texas based corporations such as BP Amoco, Shell, and Exxon contacted Wendy to consult with them on how to create a more Ergonomically sound work environments for their employees. They became quick customers! Soon after, The Houston Chronicle came on board, requesting information and purchasing products for their offices.
In 1996, Wendy brought her business to the Internet. She launched her website, ErgoPro.com, and became one of the very first 200,000 commercial websites in the world! Wendy felt the need to become an expert in her field and began attending conferences and seminars between 1996 and 2003. In 2003, she participated in a certificate program and became a certified Ergonomist.
From ErgoPro’s beginning, Wendy made a conscious decision to view ergonomics as a health issue, dealing with Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI) instead of simply an office equipment issue. For this reason she has always worked from a place of integrity about her teachings, product offerings, and philosophies. This has created a loyal customer following that has remained with Ergo Pro for many years.
“My definition of the term Ergonomic,” proclaims Wendy, “is creating a workstation that fits you, rather then your body contorting to fit it. It’s a healthy interaction with one’s environment.” Wendy Young’s business includes over 2000 customers including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and home computer users.
