The
Long Island Lefty Story
Longislandlefty.com is a brother and sister owned company selling the best and most eclectic selection of left-handed products on the market today! This unique concept was the brain child of younger brother Jared Kugel and was then developed, created and executed with the help and business expertise of big sister Allison Kugel.
Allison had been working in the entertainment industry for nine years, both in front of and behind the camera, while Jared was a high school student who excelled academically and received awards for statewide business and marketing competitions. While working for an entertainment public relations firm in Manhattan, Allison would overhear Jared speaking of starting an Internet company to sell products for lefties. Though Allison too was a lefty, she thought little of the idea and was preoccupied with her own career track. Shortly after the tragic events of September 11th Allison's firm lost quite a bit of accounts and she was laid off. "To me it was a bit of a relief, because after that horrific tragedy I was no longer finding meaning in my work and I was craving change and freedom. I always wanted to create something of my own that I could build and be proud of. I found that, in starting a company with my brother. Working with family is great because you know they want the best for you." -Allison
Allison started offering Jared help with his "little project" and grew more and more interested in his idea as the days went on. As Jared went off to school each day, Allison got busy at work, doing tons of research on lefty marketing and needs, working with a web designer, finding manufacturers with innovative products, and building a business plan. "Jared would come home from school each day, come to the office and say, 'OK, let's get to work!' Definitely not your average 15 year old," recalls Allison. Eventually it became apparent that they were partners in this thing and the two siblings signed an official business partnership agreement. Long Island Lefty was born!!!"
Being that they are siblings, both lefties, from Long Island, and the fact that Jared is only 15 made it all the more exciting to Allison. She thought, "wow ... this is absolutely perfect!" As Jared and Allison began to spread the word about Longislandlefty.com, they found so many lefties who were really interested in what they had to say, and the comfort that their products could provide. "We thought it would take years for people to realize what we were trying to do, but the response has been rapid and is growing all the time. It's really amazing" said Jared in response to the company's quick success.
