Sagamore Publishing

Sagamore Publishing L.L.C. has been providing materials for the parks, recreation and leisure service industries since 1974.

The 32-year history of Sagamore Publishing commenced in 1974, when Dr. Joseph Bannon, recipient of the 2001 National Pugsley Award, founded a consulting business know as Management Learning Laboratories (MLL). MLL was established to assist parks and recreation organizations in the planning and development of their leisure resources. One of MLL's early projects was the publication of the quarterly newsletter entitled Management Strategy, which was designed to provide parks and recreation administrators with practical management advice on issues such as personnel matters, legal liabilities, program evaluation, capital development, facility operations, and much more.

The popularity of Management Strategy led to MLL's first venture into book publishing with the 1984 release of Administrative Practice of Park, Recreation, and Leisure Services: The Best of Management Strategy. As the publishing side of the business grew, a separate company, Sagamore Publishing, was formed. Today, Sagamore Publishing is one of the leading publishers in the area of parks, recreation, and leisure, with over 140 titles published to date.
In 1998, Sagamore announced the formation of a textbook advisory board composed of a variety of experts in the field of parks, recreation, and leisure. The individuals involved have made a tremendous contribution to our efforts in the past several years and have proven to be an effective component in our evaluation of prospective titles.

Currently, Sagamore is working on several new books. You may view these titles at our "Future Titles" section, located on the front page of our Web site.
