Steel underground tanks are available in many styles. Small electrical charges in the soil can significantly affect the corrosion of steel, and precautions must be taken to avoid this. Particular attention must be paid to the outside coating on the tank, and anodes are used to dissipate electrical charges. Another option would be to apply a fiberglass coating on the steel tank. Fiberglass is not a conductor and will shield the steel from electrolysis. Anodes can also be used with a fiberglass coating for maximum protection.
