Seattle, WA, August 30, 2008 --(
PR.com)-- The Hunger Site’s visitors can now help those hit hardest by the August floods in India’s northeastern state of Bihar. This flood has impacted more than 2 million people and 725 villages.
Through Gift That Gives More™ program, The Hunger Site began collecting funds on August 28 to help those in the flooded areas as quickly as possible. The $25 “Help Flood Victims in India” Gift is currently available on The Hunger Site’s homepage: www.thehungersite.com.
These funds will be distributed by GreaterGood.org to charities working in India. In May, The Hunger Site created a similar crisis response Gift when a cyclone tore through Burma. In May and June, The Hunger Site’s $25 Gift That Gives More™ for relief work in Burma (Myanmar) raised more than $70,000 for the Foundation for the People of Burma (FPB). Approximately $49,000 was sent to FPB within two weeks after Cyclone Nargis struck, allowing the agency to provide vital services within the first two weeks of the disaster.
Other recent Gifts That Give More™ include response to the crisis in Georgia, relief for earthquake victims in China, and help for victims of the Midwest floods in the United States. The Gifts That Give More™ program allows visitors to any site in the GreaterGood Network to make a direct donation to a specific charity or program. With their full-color downloadable certificate of acknowledgment, Gifts That Give More™ make a meaningful waste-free gift.
More on The Hunger Site
Since 1999, The Hunger Site has proven the ability of the Internet to bring people together to make a difference. When people take the simple action of clicking on the yellow button on the site’s home page every day, the result over time is literally thousands of tons of food for the world’s hungry through money provided by sponsoring advertisers. The “Click to Give” program is free for site visitors.
Through two charity partners, Mercy Corps and America’s Second Harvest, The Hunger Site’s “Click to Give” program alone distributed the equivalent of nearly 50 million cups of food (2,813.3 metric tons) in 2007. The totals of the 2008 “Click to Give” program are posted on The Hunger Site’s results page and are updated daily.
The Hunger Site raises additional funds through the Gifts That Give More™ and contributions paid for by items sold in the The Hunger Site’s online store.
