Worlds to Discover Invites Children to Follow Whimsical Aspirations Through Labyrinth’s Door
Atlanta, GA, September 11, 2008 --(
PR.com)-- Real life is for everybody else – this, according to Labyrinth’s Door, a fanciful new magazine that encourages young people to step out of their daily school-play-sleep routines and into their imaginations, where otherworldly settings collide with a weathered, but good- natured soul in stories that turn a lazy afternoon hobby into an engrossing adventure that won’t soon be forgotten. Graciously watched over by the Keeper – the peculiar former adventurer who prunes the soles from his shoes because they smother his feet – the Labyrinth is a place where enchantment reigns and boredom knows no friend.
“When I was a little girl, reading was an outlet that stirred my imagination in a way few other activities accomplished” says Jacquitta McManus, head steward of Labyrith’s Door. “Through Lewis, Tolkien and others, I eagerly left the stress and worry of ‘real life’ at the page’s edge, freely getting lost in tales of dragons, fairies and exhilaratingly uncommon places. Strangely, though, something else was happening at the same time – the more I read, the sharper I became at writing and speaking. I found that my time spent with books was forever changing the way I interacted with the world around me. Taking a step through Labyrinth’s Door keeps that spirit alive by making words dance and pictures sparkle for children who long for more than the most advanced video game console could ever offer.”
Absent of advertisements, product reviews and other editorial interruptions, the format of Labyrinth’s Door is a spectacle all its own. Conceptualized bi-monthly as an unforgettable adventure from start to finish, each issue of the whimsical magazine will contain a feature story and three to four short stories, all taking place in mystical settings behind the Labyrinth’s Door. Discontent to adults contribute every bit of the magic, Labyrinth’s Door also relies on the spark and wit of its largest audience – children. Indeed, the Young Author’s Page of each issue will feature stories composed by young people ages 8 – 17, which will be accompanied by the ever consistent illustrative talent of the Labyrinth’s Door’s staff.
But, what’s a great fantasy read without a memorable lead character? Enter the Keeper, the cheerful steward of Labyrinth’s Door who vigilantly ensures that all visitors who thirst for adventure will easily find their way behind that great symbol of the curious and unknown. Donned in a patchwork wardrobe that has seen many lifetimes of travel, the Keeper knows of everything that happens behind the Door, and though the ageless old soul endeavors to protect the Labyrinth’s many secrets, sometimes he accidentally lets a few of them slip, despite his renowned watchfulness. Since the Keeper is always filled with melancholy when the Labyrinth’s visitors return to their normal lives, he pens a monthly journal – called the Keeper’s Journal, of course – in which he keeps all who’ve been to the Labyrinth abreast of its happenings. In his excitement, it’s in these correspondences that he forgets to keep his lips sealed at times, often to the recipients delight … unless it’s one of their own of course.
These little flukes are quickly forgotten as the Keeper tells his readers of his most remarkable quest each month – there are so many, he rarely knows which to pick. Brought to life in a beautifully rendered comic strip, the Keeper’s adventures are always unforgettable and inspire children to spend even more time behind Labyrinth’s Door. This way, the ardent young readers are ensured full access to what unknown worlds he’s traveled, which quirky and curious characters he’s encountered – and perhaps most importantly, what he has to say about all of it.
“It would be an otherworldly stretch to suggest that the Keeper doesn’t keep me on my toes” says McManus, laughing. “Whether it’s ‘Never let the rain drops fall on your head because they make memories fade away’ or ‘Make potion, not war’, the Keeper never fails to relay important or noteworthy remembrances from his crazy adventures in the most peculiar, nevertheless, lasting and impactful ways. This is just one of the many endearing qualities about the charmingly rare figure behind Labyrinth’s Door, a magazine that I hope will inspire creativity and passion in children around the world.”
Worlds to Discover, the brand behind the bi-monthly fantasy/adventure magazine, is taking subscriptions now for a first distribution in December of 2008. That means children 8 – 14 have less than three months of normalcy, as unexpected adventure and surprise await with anticipation just on the other side of Labyrinth’s Door.
