PR.com)-- Both avidin and streptavidin show extraordinary strong affinity to biotin. The dissociation constant (Kd) of the non-covalent interaction between streptavidin and biotin is on the order of 10-15 M. The streptavidin-biotin complex is also highly stable over a wide range of temperatures and pH. As a result, the streptavidin-biotin interaction has been extensively used in molecular biology, immunology, and cellular assays.
