Raleigh, NC, September 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Billie Redmond, CEO of Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties (www.cbctmp.com), has announced that the firm was awarded a 2008 Sir Walter Raleigh award for their Historic Preservation/Rehabilitation of the Occidental Life Insurance Building located at 1001 Wade Ave. The Sir Walter Raleigh Award honors projects, groups and individuals that have made a difference in improving the visual and natural environment of the City of Raleigh. Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties received the award on Sept. 8 during an awards ceremony held at the Raleigh Convention Center.

For years, the Occidental Life Insurance Building, first built in 1955, had been vacant and repeatedly vandalized. Beginning in 2002, to preserve the building's history, Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties refurbished it to its original 1955 prominence. This involved recreating the original entrance facing Wade Avenue and completely restoring the building's limestone exterior, as well as the interior mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. The original mahogany paneling, terrazzo floors and travertine granite walls were restored to their former luster. Restoration also included reconstructing and remodeling the lobby, hallway and bathrooms, sealing the existing windows, installing high-speed communications and a card-key security system, and replacing and upgrading the landscaping. Additional parking was added along Daniels Street and a drive connecting Oberlin Court was added.

Upon completion of the restoration process, Coldwell Banker Commercial TradeMark Properties moved their corporate headquarters into the building and it was renamed the Coldwell Banker Building.
