30% Solar Tax Incentive. Congress Passes the Most Powerful Solar Legislation in History; Provides Historic Kick-Off to National Solar Energy Tour

Over 200 people visited the Sustainable Future Zero Energy Solar Home for the National Solar Energy Tour the day after Congress extended the 30-percent commercial tax credit for 8 years now to include residential solar installations.

30% Solar Tax Incentive. Congress Passes the Most Powerful Solar Legislation in History; Provides Historic Kick-Off to National Solar Energy Tour
Knoxville, TN, October 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday, October 4, 2008, Sustainable Future’s Net Zero Energy solar home, as part of the East Tennessee solar home tour, hosted more than 200 guests. The tour of the home was an opportunity for people to educate themselves and ask questions about energy conservation and solar power generation.

The tour began with the exterior of the house and an inspection of the solar electric panels (PV), as well as the rooftop thermal panels that collect heat for hot water. After a stop at both the green and the grid meter, the tour moved inside. The interior of the house included the installation of environmentally friendly bamboo floors, foam instead of traditional fiber insulation in the attic, and energy star appliances in the kitchen. The tour concluded with a pop quiz: How many pounds of coal does the house offset per day? According to David Bolt, Founder of Sustainable Future, LLC, “28 pounds; the solar hot water heater offsets approximately 18 kilowatt hours, or 18 pounds of coal per day, and the PV system offsets approximately 10 kilowatt hours, the equivalent of 10 pounds of coal per day.”

On the day of the tour, the Sustainable Future Solar home had a utility bill of negative $300.00. Coincidentally, the tour was scheduled the day after one of the most significant pieces of legislation for residential solar power was approved by Congress.

Solar Energy Industries Association reported:
“Washington- October 6, 2008. “The U.S. House and Senate just passed historic legislation that will massively increase the use of solar energy all across America. Renewable energy provisions in H.R. 1424 include an eight year extension of the 30% solar tax credit and removal of the monetary cap for residential solar electric installations. The President signed it into law on October 3.”

Notes Bolt, “Extending the 30% tax credit for 8 years on solar electric systems and removing the $2,000 cap on residential, will make PV affordable for more people and move this country toward energy independence. This year our business has significantly increased for a variety of reasons. Our clients have been mostly telling us they are installing a solar system because of air quality concerns, global warming, and to become independent. With this 30% tax benefit, we believe another significant reason will be added to the list- and that is to save money.”

With the public becoming increasingly interested in solar energy, and now, due to Congress’ incentives to help make it possible, Solar Education Sustainable Future, LLC will be offering a variety of seminars on solar energy, solar thermal, and other energy conservation practices. The first scheduled seminar is free to the public, and is part of Westside Unitarian Universalist Church’s (WUUC) Green Sanctuary program. It will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 from 6:30-8:30pm at WUUC, 616 Fretz Rd., Farragut, Tennessee 37934. The opportunity to ask questions will be available at the end of the 30-minute presentation. A second workshop, “Sustainable Development and Building Green: What it is, How it’s Done, and the Legal Consequences of Getting There in Tennessee” will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 401 W.Summit Hill Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee on January 23, 2009. The cost is $389.00 and will feature several experts speaking on a variety of topics. For more information about Sustainable Future, please visit www.sustainablefuture.biz.
