Grant Johnson is a former Canadian roadracing and motocross champion, who has won gold medals in cross-country motorcycle racing.
Twenty-two years ago this spring, the Johnsons set out for an incredible around-the-world odyssey on their BMW R80GS. They’ve travelled more than 100,000 kilometres through 50 countries over 14 years.
“We discovered that people are great everywhere,” says Grant. “If your bike breaks down, or you’re forced to stop because of paperwork, that’s not a bad thing. It’s an opportunity for you to get to know the local people, and understand what life is like for them. That, to me, is one of the most important parts of travelling.”
