New Laser Liposuction Procedures in Demand, Despite Economy

Twin Cities’ medical spa, Skin Rejuvenation Clinic says they are seeing an increase in inquires and bookings for ProLipo™ and Vaser® laser and ultrasound-assisted liposuction, despite the current economic situation in Minnesota and the nation.

Minneapolis, MN, March 27, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Elizabeth Hagberg, MD and her husband Mark Hagberg, MD, owners of Skin Rejuvenation Clinic located in Edina, Minnesota, say that despite the unsteady economic situation, their laser-assisted liposuction business is seeing steady growth.

According to Dr. Mark Hagberg, a board-certified physician focused on cosmetic enhancements, the growth of Skin Rejuvenation Clinic’s ProLipo laser lipo services and Vaser ultrasound-assisted liposuction treatments doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

“People who have ruled out traditional liposuction are now considering laser-assisted techniques because of their many advantages,” he says.

Developed in 2007 and now FDA-approved, ProLipo laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo, CoolLipo and Slim Lipo are similar procedures) has been widely-embraced by the public and members of the cosmetic industry because of the gentler recovery process and due to the fact that general anesthesia is not required (The patient does not need to be “put to sleep”.)

Dr. Hagberg explains, “Traditional liposuction requires a cannula to be inserted under the skin to remove isolated pockets of fat. But when you manually suction fat without the newer technologies, the aggressive back and forth motion causes more bleeding, swelling and destruction of tissue. Laser-assisted liposuction is gentler and takes traditional liposuction to the next level by actually melting fat cells before they are removed, causing much less trauma to tissue, resulting in decreased bleeding, swelling and bruising. This ultimately leads to a faster recovery. He continues, “In fact, the treatment is so comfortable, at our clinic patients do not need to be put to sleep; they are kept awake and relaxed.”

In addition to melting the fat, ProLipo and Vaser procedures cause the body to stimulate production of collagen, resulting in greater tightening of the skin in the targeted area, with continued tightening for up to six months.

Dr. Hagberg feels that self-investment is another big factor which is contributing to the steady growth of ProLipo and other cosmetic procedures such as Botox®, Restylane® and ProFractional laser services. “Recently a client told me she was laid off from her job and now finds herself competing with a younger generation for jobs,” he says. “She told me that she wanted to refresh her look, and feel more confident, in order to be more competitive in the job market.”

ProLipo is performed at Skin Rejuvenation Clinic using tumescent anesthesia, which is the infiltration of dilute lidocaine and epinephrine that causes the targeted tissue to become numb and permits procedures to be performed comfortably without the risks of general anesthesia.

According to Dr. Hagberg, ProLipo laser-assisted liposuction can also be less costly than traditional liposuction because there are no operating room charges or fees for an anesthesiologist or anesthetist.

Mark K. Hagberg, MD and his wife Elizabeth Hagberg, MD have devoted their full-time practice to delivering minimally and non-invasive cosmetic care at Skin Rejuvenation Clinic in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area.
