Perth, Australia, July 22, 2009 --(
PR.com)-- The extensive list of projects supports The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association’s (APPEA) projections that some 60,000 jobs will be created in the coming decade through the number of significant oil and gas projects in the planning.
The Minerals Council of Australia has also not changed its long-term forecast that another 80,000 people will be needed in the industry by 2020 in order to maintain Australia’s market share of global production, with improvement in the job market expected as soon as 2010.
Up until the last quarter of 2008, 142,000 people in Australia’s workforce were directly employed in resources. This number was up by a massive 55,400 jobs over the last five years. Even with job losses across the industry now totalling some 12,000, these losses are coming off the back of unprecedented growth and still don’t have the industry back at its original employment levels of five years ago.
The comprehensive overview of projects is featured on www.mineblogger.com.au, and details project timeframes, job numbers, current status and awarded labour contracts where known – providing the job market, school and career counsellors, and the general resource sector with an invaluable source of information.
Mineblogger was launched by Jody Elliott, a former Recruitment Manager with BHP Billiton, to provide job seekers with a credible and accurate source of information on current and upcoming opportunities in oil and gas, mining and resource industry construction in Australia.
The site provides employers with a free communication link to job seekers. Employers and industry experts are encouraged to post news, tips and information relating to careers and job opportunities in the industry.
“The job landscape has changed in the last eight months and people are uncertain. Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for employers and job seekers to connect in this environment in a way that is simple, accessible, effective, quick – and all in one location," Ms Elliott said.
“Mineblogger.com.au lets companies communicate with candidates about upcoming projects that could be scheduled for any time in the future,” she said. “Companies can help candidates to prepare and see what skills will be needed down the track.”
