Local wonder Unique Derique, an Emmy Award-winning clown, is internationally known for his unique blend of Hambone Body Drumming and circus skills. A Bay Area native, his universal quality has touched the funny bone of millions on stages and television across the world. He has toured the Americas, South Africa, Asia and Europe and performed with countless entertainers, including Bobby McFerrin, Lou Rawls and the late great Sammy Davis Jr. His daughter, Mali, last seen performing acrobatic feats on her father’s shoulders at The Marsh in “Cirque du Something” in 2007, will be spinning colorful Poi, creating dazzling visual patterns that will delight the eye and amaze the mind.

They will be joined on stage with exciting, young graduates of The Prescott Circus Theatre, the famous after school program at Prescott Elementary in West Oakland, which has been training young circus performers since 1984. Each year, professional artists teach physical theater skills to over 170 children, including juggling, acrobatics, improvisation, balancing, unicycling, stilting, hip hop dance, hambone body percussion and clowning. The heart of the program is the performing company, approximately twenty 4th and 5th graders, well known and loved throughout the community as the "Prescott Clowns." These young students commit themselves to a minimum of nine hours per week of training and appear at over fifty community events for over 25,000 fans each year. For more information, visit www.prescottcircus.org. We are thrilled to welcome a group of Prescott alumni to The Marsh for the first time.

“Cirque du Something,” Unique Derique’s last show at The Marsh, in which he starred with Moshe Cohen, was a huge hit, filling the theater with gasps and laughter. They can’t wait to have him back on their stage, delighting the holiday crowds once again with his team of amazingly talented young performers.
