New York, NY, November 24, 2009 --(
PR.com)-- In a year when there is not much to go around The Nourishing Kitchen of New York City is seeking to feed over 1000 individuals, healthy meals in their space that only fits 11 people at a time. Over Tuesday, November 24th, Wednesday November 25th, and Thursday November 26th the Nourishing Kitchen will distribute over 200 healthy pantry bags for low-income families, and serve over 200 hot meals. All of this is made possible by the generosity of New Yorkers. Every penny that the kitchen receives is from private donors.
While packing healthy pantry bags volunteers recognized what an immense task this was. “I’ve never seen so much food in my life,” commented one of the volunteers. All of the non-perishable food the Nourishing Kitchen has purchased and received from donors will be distributed to families on Tuesday November 24th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Included in these bags will be produce that was donated by members of the New York City community—the retail value of each bag exceeds $100.00.
On Thursday November 26th, The Nourishing Kitchen of NYC will be opening its doors to families and individuals that may not be able to have a Thanksgiving on their own. Through the generous donations of the New York City Food Bank and members of the New York City community over 200 people will be able to enjoy a healthy Thanksgiving meal including rosemary rubbed Turkey breast, Italian green beans and tomatoes, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, herb stuffing with dates and baked peaches with walnuts. While helping to create this healthy menu one volunteer commented, “this is better than what we have at my place.”
