Susan and her husband, Frank have graciously offered to donate $100.00 for every real estate sale to help the Jensen Beach Elementary Program, where her son Mathew attends school. Here is what one teacher had to say about Susan's involvement in the programs:
Susan Maxwell has been an incredible asset to the Jensen Beach Autism Community. She has assisted in several charity Golf events and various fund raisers to support the program.
Susan has donated portions of her profits from real estate sales to benefit classroom activities such as pizza parties to celebrate events. In addition to these activities Susan has been the parent liaison for parents of children with Autism throughout the Jensen Beach community.
Through this position she has assisted parents in dealing with their child's diagnosis, offered information regarding her son's progress and the contribution the Jensen Beach Elementary Program has had in his success. Susan has helped parents realize that the diagnosis of Autism is not the end of social experiences for their child or family.
She initiated parties for her child and invited all students in the program to participate. Initially the response was minimal as parents were unsure of their child's ability, but in time families saw the positive social effect parties and social activities outside of the school environment had on their children.
Currently Susan also sponsors monthly parent get-togethers to encourage socialization for parents of children with Autism who often feel they are unable to participate in social activities when their child receives a diagnosis of Autism due to lack of understanding and compassion for the daily struggles the family endures. Susan has helped many families and children improve their lives and return to more typical social experiences which in turn have improved the quality of life for many families and their children.
The successes of their program and the continued social progress seen in their students are due to the continued efforts of Susan Maxwell and others who believe in children as a whole and Autism as a secondary characteristic that sometimes makes life more challenging.
