Success for Kids Releases Statement on the Recent Suicides Resulting from Bullying

Los Angeles, CA, October 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Success for Kids believes that Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an essential component of schools’ curriculum to improve student behavior and academic performance. As the first month of the school year draws to a close, it’s important for parents, teachers, and administrators to recognize the signs of bullying and address the behavior in a proactive manner. Within the past week, there have been tragedies suffered by families and communities after students succumbed to the pressure of bullying and committed suicide.

Social Emotional Learning equips young people with the tools to recognize and manage their emotions, and have consideration for others and their feelings. Infusing comprehensive SEL curriculum into schools provides students with the self-awareness that results in a sense of social responsibility antithetical to bullying.

"Now more than ever, it’s important for our children to learn how to understand and positively respond to their emotions," According to Heath Grant, CEO, Education and Outreach, Success for Kids, "Bullying is a result of deeper issues that manifest themselves into behavior that negatively affect all those involved. The use of technology allows for this behavior to extend beyond the school walls."

"Success for Kids firmly believes that by using social emotional learning or character based education within the curriculum, children can deal with the issues that lend to adverse behavior," said, Dwayne Ashley, CEO, Global Operations, Success for Kids. "Parents, teachers, and administrators will see a marked difference in the way the students see their lives, how they relate to others, and their academic performance."
