"HealthWise" Helps Shed Light on Multiple Sclerosis Through their Educational Program

Through educational Public Television segments, “HealthWise” educates audiences on the key issues associated with Multiple Sclerosis.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, October 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The world we know is full of medical dangers… some of which can be prevented, some of which can be cured, and some of which are still being fought by doctors, scientists, and the patients afflicted by their condition. While there are many degenerative and debilitating diseases people suffer from, one of the most complex and widespread conditions that is still being battled is Multiple Sclerosis.

To combat Multiple Sclerosis, one must first understand it. The disease is a chronic condition and is often disabling, which stems from the body’s own defense system attacking the fatty tissue that protects the nerve fibers in the central nervous system. When this happens the brain and the spinal cord do not communicate correctly, often causing both physical and cognitive symptoms, such as loss of limb use, numbness, and sometimes blinding or paralysis. While most patients afflicted are diagnosed with what is called “relapse-remitting” MS, which involves attacks and periods of symptoms followed by a recover period, a smaller amount of the people living with the disease have differing progressive symptoms, which is harder to treat and significantly reduces the expected lifespan.

Many scientists and pharmaceutical companies have been actively combating the disease by offering new and advanced treatments and medications, while some organizations have provided both physical and emotional support and rehabilitation to make sure that anyone who is living with MS can be happy, productive, and live a normal life. It’s important for the public to support the fight and learn more about the disease, and that is why “HealthWise” will be working to produce informative and uplifting segments with various organizations about the effects of this disease, and most importantly the stories of the people who rise above it.

“HealthWise” is an independent program and has no affiliation with PBS. Their programs are independently produced and are distributed to Public Television affiliates around the country.
