Fourth Annual College Improv Tournament Kansas City and Breadbasket Regional November 6, 2010

College improvisational comedy groups are converging on Kansas City as part of the national College Improv Tournament, produced by Kansas City's Improv-Abilities and Chicago Improv Festival Productions.

Kansas City, MO, November 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Improv-Abilities Comedy Company and Chicago Improv Festival Productions are proud to announce the fourth annual College Improv Tournament, Nov.6, 2010. The College Improv Tournament was created by Chicago Improv Festival’s executive producer Jonathan Pitts and has grown to a national competition which also includes tournaments in Chicago; Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Seattle, Austin, Texas and Santa Monica, California. With 99 teams competing, the College Improv Tournament provides the next generation of improvisers the opportunity to meet, work and forge a sense of community.

Chicago Improv Festival Productions chose Kansas City’s Improv-Abilities as a production partner because of past associations. Improv-Abilities produces the nationally known Kansas City Improv Festival, and has performed as part of the Chicago Improv Festival in the past.

The Breadbasket Regional of the College Improv Tournament is Saturday, Nov. 6 and includes six teams from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Colorado, competing at the Westport Coffeehouse Theater, 4010 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO. Preliminary rounds are at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with the regional finals at 10 p.m. The professional troupe Improv-Abilities will perform at 8:00 pm, offering the students a chance to see top-level professional improvisers.

The tournament is open to the public, tickets are $10 public/$5 students for the preliminary rounds and $15 public/$10 students for the final. They are available for purchase through Improv-Abilities, (913) 871-6242. They will be available at the door as well. Tickets to the Improv-Abilities show that night are $10.

“Chicago Improv Festival Productions is happy to be in partnerships with such strong and vibrant regional improv theatres for our ever expanding tournament,” according to Pitts. “We are excited to use the lessons of improv theatre to make a creative environment for many college students who would not otherwise have this opportunity.”

"I don't know where I would be without the Chicago Improv Festival's 'College Improv Tournament,'” explains Keith Habersberger, captain of the 2008 National Championship team, The Improv Mafia from Illinois State University. “It provided both my troupe and I with lofty improv goals and the means to achieve them. I can honestly say that I would not be as skilled an improviser today and actually have a job improvising had it not been for Chicago Improv Festival's tournament.”
