Fashion Meets Web 2.0: Press Conference to Launch IQONS

IQONS (iqons.com) is a new social networking fashion community that aims to have the same impact on fashion as MySpace had on music.

London, United Kingdom, February 06, 2007 --(PR.com)-- IQONS is a social networking community focused on fashion and style for everyone from star designers, stylists and fashion photographers to fashion fans and consumers. It has rich, timely content generated by its members and has a structure committed to providing support to new talent around the world in partnership with established fashion leaders.

The site has had a ‘soft launch’ over the last two months with events in Paris and New York and has already attracted thousands of members. These members have already found, and connected with, fashion retailers, models, factories, and like-minded friends around the world.

To coincide with London Fashion Week, this Press Conference will mark the official launch of the site globally. You will hear from IQONS members on how the site is transforming the way they connect to the fashion world and you will get to know the key features of the site:

Fashion Icons: Each month, celebrated fashion writer and biographer Colin McDowell invites highly influential fashion industry figures to become a guest ‘IQON’. The guest IQON will search the site for emerging fashion stars and announce their selections on the IQONS homepage. The first three guest IQONS - iconic global fashion designers – will be announced at the press conference.

IQONS Projects: IQONS goes beyond the web into the real-world through events, parties, projects and competitions in collaboration with partners in the fashion industry. The first three IQONS Projects will be announced at the press conference.

The IQONS Team: Rafael Jimenez (Iqons Co-Founder and Creative Director). Rafael was previously with the avant-garde fashion house Comme des Garcons where he led varied ground-breaking initiatives leading to the birth of the Guerilla Stores. These stores would open for one year in unusual locations and be run by partners with no previous experience in retail. This concept rose in response to the slick, “marbled-floor” environment habitually used in fashion.

Suran Goonatilake (Iqons Co-Founder). Suran is a co-founder of several technology companies including Bodymetrics, a company that is pioneering the use of body-scanning technologies in fashion with operations in Selfridges and Harrods. He also co-founded the Centre for Fashion Enterprise – a London based non-profit initiative that finances and nurtures new fashion designers.

Colin McDowell (Iqonographer). Colin is one of the most authoritative fashion commentators in the world. The author of sixteen books, he is the Senior Fashion Writer for The Sunday Times Style section and founder of Fashion Fringe, the project dedicated to seeking out and supporting the fashion talents of the future.

Diane Pernet (Co-mentor). Diane has pioneered the Web as a medium for fashion communication through her highly influential Blog, ashadedviewonfashion.com. Her Blog is mandatory reading for fashion lovers everywhere, whether they are a new designer starting their career in New York or an established magazine editor tracking street fashion in Seoul.

Time: 9 a.m. – 10 a.m., Date: Tuesday 13 February 2007
Venue: The Hospital, 24 Endell St, London WC2H 9HQ
