Charlotte Oyster Roast Late January, JDRF to Benefit

Wintery mix of food and drink to bring warm gift to JDRF Charlotte Chapter.

Charlotte, NC, January 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Just as Charlotte’s coldest month comes to a close, Growlers Pour House will be celebrating the Charlotte Oyster Roast to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

The event will kick off at 12pm on Sunday January 30th, and will include 5 local bands: Crisis, Leadville, Hoverboard, Lost Soul and Luz. The Charlotte Oyster Roast will be one of the first of its kind in NoDA, and it’s a natural fit for newcomer restaurant, which serves oysters on the half shell on its regular menu. While it may be cold outside, the event promises to be an excellent excuse to cozy up to clam chowder, roasted oysters, chili and hot chocolate all under a large tent in the back parking lot of Growlers Pour House with heaters and indoor access.

Supporting the JDRF was also a natural fit.

“We wanted to make sure the event helped the community in some way, and JDRF made a lot of sense for us,” says Jeff Tonidandel, whose sister in law was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes just two years ago. Ironically, another staff member at Growlers also has Type 1, making the choice to support JDRF even more apropos.

“JDRF is honored by the support Growlers Pour House is showing to our cause. While the event is sure to be fun, it’s a reminder that almost everyone is touched by Type 1 Diabetes in some way,” said Laura Maciag, Executive Director of the Charlotte Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. “We hope this event will increase awareness about diabetes and JDRF’s mission of finding a cure for the millions of Americans whose lives are impacted by this disease each and every day.”

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the world-wide leader in funding research to cure Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly and lasts a lifetime. JDRF is the leading funder and advocate of Type 1 diabetes science. The Oyster Roast at Growlers Pour House is one way that the community can come together and support those who live with the effects of this disease. More than 80% of JDRF expenditures directly support research and research related education.

Tickets for the Roast can be purchased in advance for just $10 – which includes one drink ticket (worth $3) and one food ticket (worth $3). Day of tickets will be for sale for $12.
