BodyLogicMD Physicians Recommend Pharmaceutical Grade Supplements

BodyLogicMD's Dr. Jeffrey Donohue Offers Advice on Choosing a Supplement Plan that’s Right for You.

Atlanta, GA, January 28, 2011 --(PR.com)-- When dietary supplements were first introduced to mainstream markets, they were looked upon as the snake oil of the 20th century. Now after years of dedicated research and scientific studies, there’s a large body of evidence that supports their efficacy. But with literally millions of vitamins and supplements to choose from, finding a supplement regimen that won’t break the bank or jeopardize your health can be an overwhelmingly arduous task.

“It’s important to make sure you get a pharmaceutical grade supplement. You don’t want just what’s on sale over-the-counter at your local drug store, because it may not have the quality you need,” warns Dr. Jeffrey Donohue, Medical Director of BodyLogicMD of Atlanta. “At BodyLogicMD, we only partner with the best companies in the industry, and we strive to provide our patients with the highest quality supplements that are available.”

A pharmaceutical grade standing is given when the supplement is deemed at least 99 percent pure without additives or superfluous substances that may cause unwanted side effects. Therefore, you shouldn’t settle for anything less than pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements. With this grade of supplements, not only are you assured that you are getting your money's worth, but you’re also protecting yourself from dangerous binders, dyes and fillers that are often found in lower quality products.

So you know you need a quality supplement — but which supplements should you look for? “When it comes to supplements, there are three definite necessities. Based on a patient’s symptoms, we can certainly build up their regimen from there, but the three supplements I almost always recommend are vitamin D, fish oil and a well-rounded multi-vitamin,” shares Dr. Donohue.

· Vitamin D. You need plenty of vitamin D, but not in the doses that you traditionally see. Many vitamin D supplements provide around 400 to 800 IUs, but I recommend anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 IUs.

· Fish oil. There are so many studies showing the efficacy of fish oil in disease prevention. If we can prevent something like sudden cardiac death from this supplement, we certainly want to have this supplement on board.

· Multivitamins. In order to make sure all your enzymes function properly, you need certain amounts of B vitamins, C vitamins and trace minerals. You can get these nutrients in a good, quality multivitamin.

Don’t be fooled by crafty marketing terms like “pure” or “all natural.” Only pharmaceutical grade supplements are regulated by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and carry their seal of approval. Being that they’re of higher quality, pharmaceutical grade supplements can cost a little bit more than your average over-the-counter supplements, but it’s undoubtedly worth every cent.
