Skeptic Michael Shermer on Evolution, Darwin and Rupert Sheldrake’s Creativity

In-depth interview with noted skeptic Michael Shermer explores conflicting theories of evolution

Del Mar, CA, February 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Join host Alex Tsakiris when he interviews science writer and skeptic Dr. Michael Shermer about what he’s learned studying Darwin and evolution.

During the hour-long interview Shermer insists evolution is a natural process. “As long as the source is a natural source it doesn’t matter where it comes from – extraterrestrial intelligences have reprogrammed the genome -- that’s entirely possible… but, as interesting as that would be, it doesn’t answer the question where did those guys come from… at some point you have to have a stepwise, bottom-up, natural, self-organized complexity out of simplicity.”

He rejects human creativity as a force in evolution: “…variation and selection, boy that variation is really important -- I think nature finds a way to be creative in that sense,” says Shermer.

He also rejects the notion that skeptics are overly critical of parapsychology research. “The standards parapsychologists are held to are the same standards as anyone else in science is held to, although there is one added proviso that extraordinary claims require extraordinary results,” Shermer asserts.

Dr. Michael Shermer is the author of several popular books including Why Darwin Matters: The Case Against Intelligent Design (2006).
