Introducing Accountants for Social Good: A Microfinance Institution for Accounting and CPA Firms Throughout the USA

A new phenomenon called microlending, or Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending is sweeping the world. It is a way for people to lend (not give away) money to the entrepreneurial poor in developing countries. Accountants for Social Good (ASG) is the leading institution in this area for CPAs and Accountants nationwide. Currently, they manage over $40,000 of revolving debt for the poor, as funded by independent CPA firms throughout the country.

San Francisco, CA, July 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Accountants for Social Good (ASG) is a new charitable group, created with the hope of uniting accountants, CPAs, and other financial professionals to help make a greater difference for those in need worldwide. ASG hopes to do more than just write a check for a charitable deduction. Through microfinance, ASG hopes to be part of a movement for social and economic change.

Microfinance is defined as financial services provided to low-income individuals or those who do not have access to typical banking services. Microfinance is also the idea that low-income individuals are capable of lifting themselves out of poverty if given access to financial services. There are currently many microfinance institutions (MFIs) that provide microfinance services for those in need, and most issue loans at little or no interest rate to those in need, as a means of not burdening the third-world business owner with additional debt.

ASG utilizes Kiva LLC, (www.kiva.org) as its non-profit MFI that allows individuals to help provide the funds to make micro-loans to entrepreneurs in need all around the world. Through the ASG team on Kiva.org, accountants like you can sign up and provide as little as $25 loans to the entrepreneur of their choice, creating a very personal experience between lender and lendee. Instead of donating money to a cause or charitable organization, and not know to where the money is funneled or specifically who it is helping, Kiva allows donators to loan money to a specific person for their specific business. Once a loan is made and the entrepreneur has reached the loan amount they were seeking, a payment planned is instilled, and every month the business owner will be responsible for paying back a portion of the loan. Once the loan has been completely paid back, the donator has the option to re-loan their $25, donate it to Kiva, or withdraw their money. Current loan repayment rates are in the 99% range.

Accounts for Social Good is a new Lending Team created specifically for accountants, CPAs, and other financial professionals, to help entrepreneurs in need. If you encompass that entrepreneurial spirit and want to see leaders throughout the world help themselves out of poverty, consider signing up. ASG already lends in upwards of forty thousand dollars ($40,000) in revolving credit, and is consistently ranked in the top three of all businesses on Kiva. You can join the team and start loaning (not simply donating) today by visiting http://www.kiva.org/team/accountants_for_social_good . Join Accountants for Social Good today, and start making life changing loans. Together lets show the world that accountants are more than just the bottom line.
