Dexter Industries Plans First inertial Motion Unit for the LEGO MINDSTORM

LEGO MINDSTORM’s first combined Accelerometer and Gyroscope.

Stafford, VA, July 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dexter Industries, a leader in LEGO MINDSTORMS sensors, announces that it has developed a new Inertial Motion Unit for the LEGO MINDSTORMS system. This sensor is the first inertial motion unit sensor with 6 degrees of freedom.

The sensor features a gyroscope that measures rotation on 3 axes and an accelerometer that measures motion on 3 axes. The accelerometer will measure acceleration of up to 8 Gs. While gyroscopes and accelermeters are currently available for the MINDSTORM NXT, Dexter Industries’ sensor is the first to combine both on one sensor and offer three-axis measurement for each.

The sensor is specifically geared towards middle-school and high-school STEM programs. In particular it will have educational applications in high school physics, math, and engineering.

Dexter Industries target release date for the IMU sensor for LEGO MINDSTORM is late July 2011.

Dexter Industries is a manufacturer of advanced sensors and peripherals for the Mindstorms NXT system. The company produces a wide range of sensors for education and hobbyists. Their offerings include solar power systems, a GPS guidance system, and pressure temperature sensors for the Mindstorms NXT system.
