Admission Process Simplified for Applicants of Bangladesh Technical Education Institutions

The system allows interested applicants to download and submit admission forms online. The applicant can make the payment for the application form from any Teletalk number. Merit list of eligible candidates (which takes into account factors such as quota, seat capacity, and students’ preferences) are automatically generated by this system and published online. Candidates are also notified via SMS.

Dhaka, Bangladesh, October 21, 2011 --(PR.com)-- IBCS-PRIMAX Software (Bangladesh) Ltd. implements an Online Student Admission and Result Processing System for the Technical Education Institutes under the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), located at various parts of the country. DTE, under the control of Ministry of Education, Bangladesh, is one of the largest education authorities in the country. It is the government agency for human resource development of the country specifically on Technical and Vocational Education and Training. 5,000 officers, teachers and support staffs are working for this Organization.

Earlier, students in thousands used to queue up for collecting admission forms and then again for submitting them. The processing and management of admission application forms had been predominantly manual. Much resource in terms of cost, time, and energy was spent sorting out application forms, computing aggregates, and determining qualified applicants, the process being delayed, prone to errors, and forms being misplaced.

Since the launch, interested applicants fill in and submit admission forms online at the DTE website. Applicants can make payments for the application form from any Teletalk number. They no longer need to be physically present to collect and submit forms and make payments. Applicants can also make printout of their admit cards from the web to sit for the examination.

The implemented solution is integrated with Optical Mark Reader (OMR) that reads and checks the test answer forms and saves the results to a file. The system also generates a merit list based on the result, quota, seat capacity and students’ preferences. Merit lists are published on the website and applicants are also notified via SMS. The current system not only enhances accuracy and reliability but also engenders more transparency. The automatic generation of the merit list by the system rules out any chance of foul play. Reduction of time in activities, centralized data handling, and paperless admission process further results in cost cutting and operational efficiency.

“When our system was manual, total time required to prepare and publish the merit list used to be two months,” stated Shaikh Abu Reza, Assistant Director at Directorate of Technical Education. “Now we are publishing our merit list within 2 days,” he said, adding that this is the second year that they are running their online application system which involves transaction of huge data all over the country.

“Online Student Admission Automation System has been accepted with widespread praise and as such several institutes have approached us for implementing a similar system for them. At present we are developing a University Management solution for Jagannath University and Bangladesh Open University of which the online admission system is a significant part,” said Sheikh Kabir Ahmed, Managing Director of IBCS-PRIMAX in a recent statement. Mr. Ahmed believes that all private and public Educational Institutions should be free from malpractices since education is the backbone of a Nation.
