WinRAR 4.10 Beta 1 Now Available
Berlin, Germany, October 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- win.rar GmbH and RARLAB present the first beta version of WinRAR 4.10. The world’s leading compression software has incorporated a number of innovations for the ZIP-format. With WinRAR there are no restrictions in size and number of files in ZIP archives anymore. The WinRAR user interface has been optimized, encrypted archives can be converted and SFX-options for self-extracting archives and installers have been improved.

Optimization of ZIP-support
With the current beta 4.10 WinRAR significantly improves support for ZIP-archives. Today many users still fall back to sending ZIP-archives, when they don’t know if recipients can unpack RAR-archives. Until now this meant losing a huge RAR benefit (no limits on file size and number), because ZIP support in WinRAR was limited to archives less than 2GB and 65535 files per archive. WinRAR 4.10 removes these limitations, bringing ZIP support closer to RAR-archives.

WinRAR users have always benefited from so called split archives (or multi-volumes). Split archives are ideal for distributing large archives such as movie files or music collections. They can be stored and distributed in multiple archives and can be sent easily over the internet. To satisfy user demand and to maintain compatibility with other formats, WinRAR now allows multi-volumes in ZIP format.

In contrast to split-archives in RAR format, multi-volume ZIPs cannot be self-extracting. As an alternative to ZIP archives WinRAR users can rely on self-extracting-split RAR archives. With self-extracting split RAR archives recipients can easily open and extract the archives even if they have no compression software installed.

WinRAR has offered many great features for years: Among them are solid archiving, recovery records, which allow reconstructing damaged files, converting functions and many security options. WinRAR sets the benchmark with high compression rates, its stability and minimal use of disk space. Apart from the RAR format, WinRAR also supports a long list of non-RAR formats, like the ZIP-format, and therefore offers the best compatibility in its class.

In addition WinRAR 4.10 comes with improvements in the user interface, especially regarding volume size and improved security settings when deleting temporary files.

The popular feature "convert archives" has been optimized to allow converting encrypted archives. Finally, RARLAB has introduced new commands for WinRAR command line, and has improved the SFX-modules for self-extracting archives and installers.

Another tip: for all Windows-64-bit users, it is highly recommended to install the WinRAR 64-bit version. It is faster and offers best available integration. WinRAR’s compression speed in Windows Vista and Windows 7 or any other multi-core-system has been increased considerably.
