Inland Fiber & Data to Facilitate Robotic Microsurgery Online

This event will highlight evolving Internet and robotic surgical technology that is advancing abilities to perform medical procedures remotely, with patient and surgeon in separate locations, expanding the use of medical resources.

Winter Haven, FL, November 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Inland Fiber & Data (IF&D) will facilitate a robotic microsurgical vaso-vasostomy/vaso-epididymostomy procedure online to an international audience of surgeons from numerous fields. This event will highlight evolving Internet and robotic surgical technology that is advancing abilities to perform medical procedures remotely, with patient and surgeon in separate locations, expanding the use of medical resources while minimizing patient proximity, paving a course for healthcare efficiencies spanning patients and providers globally.

The procedure will be conducted November 5th from Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida by Urologic Microsurgeon Dr. Sijo Parekattil, as part of the Robotic Assisted Microsurgical & Endoscopic Society (RAMSES) 1st Annual Multispecialty Robotic Microsurgery Symposium, Hosted by Winter Haven Hospital and held contiguously in-conference at the Disney BoardWalk Inn November 4-6 in Orlando. Dr. Parekattil is Director of Robotic Surgery & Urology at Winter Haven Hospital, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Florida. He will utilize the DaVinci Si High Definition Robotic Surgical System for the procedure.

This RAMSES meeting is the first multi-specialty microsurgical gathering of its kind, with microsurgeons from varying fields participating including hand, plastics, reconstructive, ENT, urology, gynecology, ophthalmology, vascular, orthopedics, pediatrics and peripheral nerve. It will feature speakers from both robotic assisted and conventional microsurgical techniques.

To date, over 300 robotic assisted microsurgical procedures have been successfully completed at institutions around the world. Experts believe the advantages provided by robotics in elimination of tremor, scaling of motion and enhanced magnification have the potential to further expand the field of microsurgery, along with uniformity in the tools utilized by microsurgeons across various fields providing a common robotic assisted microsurgical platform.
