Leading Alpaca Breeder Snowmass Alpacas Offers Elite Alpaca Genetics in Unprecedented Sale

Snowmass Alpacas passes the “winner’s circle” baton to their clients.

Sandpoint, ID, January 26, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Arguably the world’s most successful alpaca breeder, Snowmass Alpacas, is set to sell some of their key breeding stock that made them so successful, along with a selection of their 2012 show string animals.

Included in the list of Champions to be sold is Snowmass Best Man, who won first place Get of Sire and Reserve Herdsire of the Year at the 2011 Futurity. Other standouts are: Snowmass Conopa, this years’ IAO (International Alpaca Odyssey) get of sire champion and the futurity's reserve herdsire of the year; Snowmass Legacy’s Lass who is dam to Snowmass Matrix, the worlds’ highest selling alpaca, and Snowmass Delightful Duet, who is dam to this years’ Herdsire of the Year, Snowmass Elite Legend.

Following this announcement, Snowmass Alpacas released their decision to forego Alpaca shows in 2012. Instead, they will turn their full attention to improving genetics in a shared endeavor to create a viable, global market for Alpaca fleece.

“This year we are hand selecting the alpacas that we would normally reserve to show, and offering them to our clients at this years’ Winners’ Circle Sale. It’s our hope that our clients will then take these alpacas to show and find themselves in the top tier winners’ circles,” said Snowmass Breeding Director, Julie Skinner.

For years, Alpaca lineages developed by Snowmass have dominated the industry, earning countless awards at shows throughout the world, and earning the highest prices at auction. In 2010, their animal, Snowmass Matrix, earned the highest price ever paid for an alpaca, selling at auction for $675,000 purchased by Ernie & Barabara Kellogg of Double O Good Alpacas.

“We’re as competitive as they come, and we owe much of our success to this. In the past, we’ve always presented some of our best genetics for sale but at the same time, we’ve reserved strategic genetic lines that maintained our competitive edge, at shows and in the industry worldwide. This year, that’s all changed. We are presenting both male and female reserve stock like never before. This decision will undoubtedly take the edge away from Snowmass and pass it on to our clients, but we feel it will help the Alpaca industry as a whole. We’re moving out of the show ring, but remain competitive breeders and now we’ll put our full focus on what we do best – developing better genetics,” Skinner said.

Snowmass will release their key breeding stock for sale at the 2012 Making of Champions – Winners’ Circle Sale, held February 24th and 25th at Corona Ranch in Phoenix, Arizona.
