Tips From the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association for Finding the Best Mexican Dentists

General dentists un-trained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canals and cosmetic dental makeovers often attempt expensive complicated dental procedures much to the patient's regret. Certified dentists in Mexico cost the same as general dentists in Mexico. Board Certified Mexico Dentist Assn has an American dentist and English speaking staff to help patients find certified dentists in Mexico for their important dental work.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, May 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Tips on Finding the Best Dentist in Mexico and having a great Mexico Dental Vacation.

1. Insist on a Board Certified Dentist - they have years of extra training and unlike in the US, they cost the same as less-trained general dentists in Mexico.

2. If having a larger procedure such as a cosmetic dental makeover, consider flying in to a Mexico resort town such as Cabo or Puerto Vallarta. It’s only a few hundred dollars and only takes 2-5 hours from most US cities.

3. Ask if the Mexican dentist is a board certified specialist. If they say “No” but they’ve been making crowns or doing root canals for 15 years… or they learned assisting their brother who is a specialist dentist in Mexico, or the general dentist took some quickie weekend seminars by a dental implant manufacturer who just wanted to sell more implants – don’t just walk away - run.

General dentists are trained in the basics – cleaning, drilling, filling and pulling teeth. They are not formally trained in oral surgery, dental implants, crowns, root canals, periodontics, cosmetic dentistry or dental makeovers. But they love the opportunity to practice on you in Mexico.

The downside of having an un-qualified Mexican dentist do you is huge and can cost many thousands of dollars back home to have redone properly.

The improper dental work can include crowns that don’t color match, crowns that are too short exposing metal underlayment, crowns that are too close together, crowns that come off, the existing teeth ground down too low for the new crowns to fit well, dental implants that are set improperly at bad angles, set in insufficient or unhealthy bone, set without needed sinus lifts and without needed bone grafts.

Then there are veneers that come off, veneers that are too thin, too thick, and the list goes on. Remember – most dental horror stories on both sides of the US/Mexican border are a result of either lack of training (i.e. generals doing specialist work) or to a lesser extent – incompetence due to the doctor being tired, substance abuse, psychological or other problems.

Dental implants, root canals, dental makeovers, multiple crowns, bridges etc. are complicated procedures that require several years of additional study in specialist school to master. The specialist schools exist for a good reason.

General dentists are permitted to attempt these procedures in Mexico and learn the hard way – at the patient’s expense. This can be dangerous for the consumer. Consumer protection laws in Mexico are lax in this regard. In the USA, it’s illegal for general dentists to attempt specialist dentistry such as oral surgery, root canals etc.
