Wireless Innovation Forum Announces Multiple New Projects Resulting from 71st Working Meeting

Washington, DC, April 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Wireless Innovation Forum (www.WirelessInnovation.org), a non-profit international industry association dedicated to driving the future of radio communications and systems worldwide, recently held its 71st Working Meeting 12-14 March, 2012, resulting in the announcement of several new projects and advancements of current projects.

The meeting included working sessions for the User Requirements Committee and Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards and inaugural sessions of the newly reorganized Technical Committees on Software Defined Radio and Cognitive Radio/Dynamic Spectrum Access. Advancements at the meeting included:

Technical Committee on Software Defined Radio:
Call for Contributions Completed for "Open Source Framework for Commercial Baseband Software" - the Commercial Baseband Processing Work Group, Chaired by Mr. Daniel Iancu representing Optimum Semiconductor Technologies (http://www.optimumsemi-tech.com/), completed work on their call for contributions and initiated system level LTE-Advanced Mathematica coding. Work on the latter included an RRC filter and a Kalman predictor for channel estimation. Follow on work will be completed during a bi-weekly teleconference to include block coding and IP determination.

New project defined by the Transceiver Facility Specification Work Group – The Transceiver Facility Specification Work Group, Chaired by Eric Nicolet representing Thales (http://www.thalesgroup.com/Group/Home/), developed a new project proposal for an "Open Source Transceiver Facility Implementation for Fast Prototyping". The group discussed licensing models and source code management for this project, with a goal of completing the project proposal by 15 April and kicking off the project in May.

Technical Committee on Cognitive Radio and Dynamic Spectrum Access:
Committee Organization Introduced - The TC-CR/DSA, chaired by James Neel, representing Cognitive Radio Technologies (http://www.crtwireless.com/) and Neal Mellen, representing TDK (http://www.tdk.com/) held a plenary session where they reviewed the new committee’s organization, the project interests expressed by member organizations, and candidate liaisons with external groups. Project ideas explored by the committee included:

· Test and Measurement for Cognitive Radios
· DSA State of the Art Survey
· Impact of receiver standards on DSA/CR performance

Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards:
New Project Proposed for SCA API Work Group - The SCA API Work Group, chaired by Terry Anderson, representing ITT Exelis (http://www.exelisinc.com/Pages/default.aspx) explored new proposals for development in 5 new project areas. The group agreed to initiate a project on "API Specification Enhancement" and began drafting the associated project proposal.

New Project Proposed for SCA Next Work Group - The SCA API Work Group, chaired by Terry Anderson, representing ITT Exelis (http://www.exelisinc.com/Pages/default.aspx), explored new proposals for development in 8 project areas. The group agreed to initiate a project on "PSMs for Additional Transfer Mechanisms (non-CORBA)" and began drafting the project proposal. The group also discussed pursuing 3 closely related projects simultaneously:

Zero copy data transfer, championed by Jerry Bickle, representing Raytheon
Alternate IOP, championed by OIS and Prismtech

C++ Transfer Mechanisms

Potential new projects identified by SCA Implementers Work Group - The SCA Implementers Work Group, chaired by Steve Bernier, representing CRC (http://www.crc.gc.ca/en/html/crc/home/home) identified 8 potential new projects:

Implementers/UsersGuide
Waveform Application Portability Guidelines
User Guide for International Radio Security Services API specification
SCA 2.2.2 to SCA Next Migration Guide
Differences between SCA 2.2.2 and SCA Next
Profiling Guide
Formal Profiles
Ecosystem if SCA widgets (open source and/or COTS)

Project champions for 2 projects: Steve Bernier agreed to champion the Implementers Guide Project, and Alberto Qintana representing Indra Sistemas (http://www.indracompany.com/en) agreed to champion the Waveform Application Portability Guidelines. The champions agreed to create and share draft project proposals to be reviewed via conference calls.

A listing of projects being undertaken by the members of the Forum can be found here: http://www.wirelessinnovation.org/page/Current_Projects. Individuals and organizations interested in participating in these projects are encouraged to contact the Forum (Lee.Pucker@WirelessInnovation.org) for additional details.

The Forum will hold its 72nd Working Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, 25-27 June 2012. For meeting information, visit: http://groups.WInnForum.org/72ndWM_Agenda_Search. You can register for the meeting, as well as the Forum’s European Conference on Communications Technologies and Software Defined Radio (SDR’12-WInnComm-Europe), which immediately follows the meeting, here: https://www.regonline.com/sdr12winncommeurope. This fourth annual conference, supported by event Gold Sponsors Gatehouse and Inmarsat, will include three tracks – one focused on SDR technologies, one focused on Cognitive Radio and Dynamic Spectrum Access technologies, and one focused on CR and SDR programs and requirements. Conference information is available on the conference web site: http://Europe.WirelessInnovation.org.

Supported by platinum Sponsors General Dynamics C4 Systems (http://www.gdc4s.com/radios), Harris Corporation (http://www.harris.com/), Indra Sistemas (http://www.indra.es/), OIS (http://www.ois.com) and Selex ELSAG (http://www.selexelsag.com/internet_en/). Forum working meetings are held three times annually in North America and Europe. Additional information can be found at http://www.WirelessInnovation.org.
