Rabine Group Completes Its Roofing Design Center

Schaumburg, IL, June 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The final phase of the Roofing Design Center at the Rabine Group headquarters is completed. This feature enables Roofing Solutions America, a company of the Rabine Group, to better educate its partners and the industry on various roof types. An easy access walk path allows observers to examine the various roof technologies.

Phase one of the construction of the Rabine Academy Roof Design Center began in September of 2011. In this phase, Roofing Solutions America waterproofed the roof with Cool Roof Coatings and installed a Cool Roof Membrane. Waterproofing protection and roof surface restoration are two important features of Cool Roof Coatings. Cool Roof Coatings are available in a wide variety of options. Silver and white coatings increase roof surface reflectivity while reducing surface temperatures. Various coatings are available for asphalt based roofing systems, single ply membranes and metal roofing.

Cool Roof Membranes provide increased surface reflectivity and also reduce roof top temperatures, allowing roof top equipment to operate more efficiently. Cool Roof Membranes are generally white in color. The Cool Roof Membrane product used on the Rabine Roofing Design Center is a white, PVC membrane manufactured by Sarnafil. The Sarnafil roof membrane is 100% recyclable.

Prismatic Skylights were installed to offer optimum levels of “diffused” light to better illuminate facilities. When used in conjunction with on/off lighting sensors; day lighting can greatly reduce energy use. New skylight domes can be easily retrofitted on existing skylight curbs.

Various recyclable products and “green” technologies have been used throughout the design and installation of the Rabine Roofing Design Center. You will find composite (wood/plastic) decking products that are manufactured from recycled plastic garbage bags, recyclable roof membranes, energy efficient roof coatings, high performance skylights, recyclable walk pads, vector mapping leak detection, a vegetative garden and a 70 kilowatt solar array all contributing to our buildings efficiency and sustainability well into the future.

The final phases of the Rabine Group Roofing Design Center revolved around environmentally friendly roofs: Vegetative Garden Roofs and Solar Roof Technologies. Vegetative Garden Roofs are also referred to as “green roofs”. Garden roofs can be “intensive” or “extensive” depending on the depth of the substrate and growing medium. Garden roofs absorb the sunlight and rain, thus, reducing UV rays and storm water run-off. The plants provide added insulation and improve noise reduction. Green roofs reduce roof top surface temperatures and reduce “urban heat island” effects while helping the surrounding community breathe a little easier! The Rabine Roof Design Center has an extensive roof provided through LiveRoof. The plants are grown in the state of Michigan and delivered fully grown to maximize immediate environmental benefits.

Solar Roof Technologies are continuing in popularity as increased market awareness and long-term energy prices drive the need for sustainable energy alternatives. The Rabine Roofing Design Center exhibits the latest technology for capturing the sun’s energy through the use of 294 Monocrystalline panels and individual microinverters. The solar panel arrays offset approximately 5% of our buildings energy consumption.
