Sleep Advocacy Success in the House, Now on to the Senate

Federal Funding for Sleep and Sleep Disorders Activities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Washington, DC, June 20, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The National Sleep Foundation has learned that the House Appropriations HHS/Subcommittee has provided specific funding for sleep activities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Although the organization is still waiting for official word, they are letting all sleep advocates know about their success.

The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education is expected to mark-up its fiscal year 2008 funding bill by the end of the week.

All NSF advocates are encouraged to contact the members of the Senate Appropriations/HHS Subcommittee and ask that the FY 2008 bill include funding for sleep and sleep-related disorders at the CDC. In addition, advocates are also being asked to contact their own senators to encourage the members of the HHS Subcommittee to include funding for sleep and sleep-related disorders at the CDC.

With specific funding for sleep, the CDC can broaden established sleep surveillance systems, which will build the evidence base for awareness and intervention programs related to sleep and sleep disorders at the national, state and local levels.
