Chukar Cherries Sponsors Terremoto in the Vic-Maui Race of 2012

Washington cherries provide fuel for premier Pacific Northwest sailboat race.

Seattle, WA, July 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On July 7th, Skipper William S. Weinstein and his sailboat Terremoto left Victoria, B.C. on a quest to win the Vic-Maui race of 2012. As one of Terremoto’s sponsors, Chukar Cherries is keeping the team energized with dried fruits, nuts, and Weinstein’s favorite chocolate-covered espresso beans.

Weinstein is the owner of Terremoto and a long-time customer of Chukar Cherries. When the Terremoto marketing team approached Chukar regarding sponsorship, the response was immediate. According to Chukar’s Founder and CEO Pam Montgomery, “Chukar Cherries is honored to help fuel the efforts of the Terremoto team on their quest to win the Vic-Maui 2012 race.”

The Vic-Maui race begins in Victoria, B.C. and finishes in the port town of Lahaina in Maui, Hawaii. Spanning approximately 2,308 nautical miles, the race follows the coast of Washington, Oregon, and California before heading across the Pacific.

Terremoto is a Riptide 35 designed by Paul Bieker, a fabled Northwest naval designer. Weinstein will crew the boat along with Mark Brink and Canadians Paul Hansen and Paul Henderson.

After winning Division 2 in Swiftsure (a qualifying race for Vic-Maui) Team Moto learned that along with appropriate gear, it was necessary to have a “sufficient supply of Chukar Cherries chocolate covered espresso beans.” Chukar was happy to oblige and also sent a plethora of high-energy fruit and nut mixes made from locally grown cherries and berries.

The Vic-Maui began in 1968 and is considered one of the best races in the Pacific Northwest. Interested parties can watch the progress of the boats as they race toward Hawaii via live tracking at http://yb.tl/vicmaui2012.

Chukar Cherries’ chocolate-covered espresso beans and their full line of dried and chocolate-covered Northwest fruits can be purchased at Chukar’s storefronts in Pike Place Market, Prosser, WA, and online at www.chukar.com.
