Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) Launch the Country’s First Travel Awards

Male', Maldives, August 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) have launched Maldives Travel Awards and appointed the event management company High Rise Private Limited to organize and manage the event.

This is the first awards of this sort and will recognise the Maldivian hospitality talent. The event is said to be one of the most awaited tourism events in Maldives as the awards has been in planning for the last two years and the event will be held coinciding with Tourism Day and celebration of forty years of Tourism in Maldives. The event is gearing to be one of the biggest and grandest events in Maldivian tourism history.

Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO) was founded in 2006 and currently, the association represents more than 70 travel agents and tour operators in the Maldives. The mission of the association is taking the travel and tourism industry of the Maldives forward through unity, empowerment, collective bargaining and co-operation.

In the recent signing ceremony held, Maldives Travel Awards event management company High Rise signed with GMR, who is in charge of running the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), and appointed GMR as the main and title sponsor for the Maldives Travel Awards 2012. Paradise Island Resort - belonging to Villa Hotels, has been appointed as the official host of this event, with the grand event to be held on 28th September 2012.

The Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mr. Ahmed Adheeb also graced this occasion, and said Ministry of Tourism endorses this event and this event will be part of the official tourism week calendar this year. He also said “Travel Agents do a lot of work in bringing in tourists into the country. Giving such an award to appreciate the work of the tourism sector is very important.”

Mr. Mohamed Khaleel, President of MATATO said that there are more than 30 categories for nominations, and the participation is totally free of charge for all tourism related establishments based in the Maldives. The voting has already begun for this prestigious awards.

The association is very proud in taking MATATO international and this will help build the brand of the association and allow its members to be recognised internationally and the association has also started joint partnership initiatives with various travel agents associations around the globe and recently was named the official Association Partner for World Travel Market, London 2012.
