Bellyfeel Creates Immersive Interactive E-Learning Tool for the Deaf

Bellyfeel works with University of Wolverhampton to create a new e-learning package to teach written English to deaf people.

Manchester, United Kingdom, October 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Last year Bellyfeel won the contract to create an e-learning package for deaf media professionals and worked closely with Wolverhampton University’s Institute of Media Arts. Bellyfeel’s Creative Director, Krishna Stott, said, “We’ve spent a year creating SignMedia, an innovative interactive learning experience. We’ve used our skills as interactive storytellers to house the learning material in a fictional storyworld of TV soap production. The learner interacts with game elements, story characters and job tasks to complete their learning experience.”

Sam Hope, Director, Institute of Media Arts at the University of Wolverhampton, said, “As Lead and Creative Director of the SignMedia project I have found Bellyfeel Ltd to be an exciting company to work with. Bellyfeel has been flexible in their approach and, in line with the brief, implemented innovative solutions to meet the target audience. The SignMedia learning tool is unique within educational materials available for Deaf people and the response from our users has been very positive. Bellyfeel’s input has been significant in helping the SignMedia consortium of partners from UK, Italy and Austria to achieve its goals.”

Created with the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union; SignMedia is aimed specifically at Deaf media professionals in Europe and provides vocational materials in an entertaining and engaging way. The new interactive learning tool on the web will provide exercises in written English, taught through the sign language of each partner country. There will be three versions of the course, related to British Sign Language (BSL), Italian Sign Language (LIS) and Austrian Sign Language (OGS) and a sign language glossary of over 300 media terms. The project is located at SignMedia (www.signmedia.tv) and will be officially launched later this year.

Webby Award winning Bellyfeel (www.bellyfeel.co.uk) is a leader in interactive storytelling, multiplatform production and social entertainment. Creative Director Krishna Stott describes their work as, “a compelling marriage of ground-breaking technology, cinematic energy and the power of the crowd.”
