About Lesley Fair

Lesley Fair is a Senior Attorney with the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, where she has represented the FTC in numerous investigations of false advertising and deceptive practices. She now specializes in industry education and compliance, and blogs at the business.ftc.gov. A Vice Chair of the Consumer Protection Committee of the ABA’s Section of Antitrust Law, Lesley is on the adjunct faculty of the Catholic University Law School and the George Washington University Law School. She clerked for U.S. District Judge Fred Shannon and served as Staff Law Clerk to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Texas School of Law.

Event Synopsis:

In a relatively short period of time blogs have proliferated on the internet becoming nearly ubiquitous. A key benefit of a blog is that a social relationship can be developed between the blogger and the readers encouraging integration that previously was not possible via traditional media. However, as the advertising industries find ways to reach their target clients, blog, are becoming an effective vehicle for successful grassroots advertising campaigns. Problem is everyone’s seems to be blogging about something and that raises serious legal concerns when commercial interests are involved. What once started out as informal grass roots activity is now becoming an intricately orchestrated ad campaigns and companies need to seriously consider the legal implications of the claims being made in their blogs or risk being accused of false advertising.

The Knowledge Group is putting together a panel of experts to help companies and legal executives involved in advertising understand the legal considerations with respect to advertising and blogging. The program will cover the most significant topics involve along with a Q&A panel in which the attendees will be invited to ask the speakers questions.
