Harry Stine of Stine Seed Challenges Farmers

Van Meter, IA, November 30, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Harry Stine, Stine Seed, challenges local Legion Farmers.

The Van Meter Legion Post has been in a fund raising mode for 2 yrs. now. They are raising funds to build a 90' by 110' building. This building site is 5 acres on the east side of Van Meter. When done it will be used as a community building with seating capacity of 300. There will also be a smaller meeting room and kitchen to complement the whole facility. The Legion Post will have a smaller meeting room to itself for their business meetings. The Legion Post has also committed to the support of the Iowa State Veterans Cemetery situated one mile north off I-80 at the Van Meter exit. With as many as 4 funerals a day at the State Veterans Cemetery a need was recognized for the families to have a place to gather after funerals.

In the summer of 2012 it was decided by the Post that enough funds had been raised to start construction. As of this date the property has been cleared, grading for the building is done, the building pad has been poured, and the building frame is up and will be shingled soon. Geothermal has been bored under the building. Also sewer, water, and electric construction are being done. There is a shelter house on the west side of the property which will feature a memorial garden to be finished later. All land and construction to date have been paid for.

Fund raising will continue until the project is completed. A couple months ago Legion Post members approached Harry Stine, owner of Stine Seed located north of Adel, Iowa, about a donation opportunity. Mr. Stine agreed to help the Post with a challenge for us to place 1000 bags of seed corn with Iowa farmers. For every seed corn bag sold, priced at $239, Stine Seed will donate dollar for dollar to the Legion Post building project. To date the Post has commitments for 500 bags. Because of their strong commitment to the State Veterans Cemetery in order to fill this commitment Legion Post 403 is asking Iowa farmers to help reach this goal. for more information farmers can call Mike Koch at 515-249-2091 or e-mail mikedkoch@aol.com
