Arkadia Releases DVD From Renowned Jazz Saxophonist Billy Harper

New York, NY, August 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Arkadia DVD, the new DVD division of the Grammy-nominated record label Arkadia Records, is proud to announce the August 2007 release of the exclusive DVD, Billy Harper in Concert: Live From Poland.

Considered one of the premier saxophonists of the post-Coltrane era, Billy Harper’s uniquely soulful approach to Jazz is on full display in this 80-minute concert, live from Szczecin, Poland. Performing at the Metropolitan Basilica Cathedral of St. Jacob, known for it’s acoustic splendor and gothic brilliance, Harper showcases everything from Jazz with his symphonic flair, to the mystical reach of Gospel Music.

Billy Harper possesses an expansive, genre deconstructing style that fluctuates effortlessly around everything Jazz, from the Kansas City sound to Hard Bop, Fusion to Free, and further embraces influences from Blues, Gospel and Rock music. While constantly evolving from the influential sound of previous Jazz generations, Harper has been careful to carve out his own sound rather then simply retracing the music’s past, and in the process has consciously and continuously pushed the bounds and momentum of music forward.

With all selections written and arranged by Billy Harper, this state-of-the-art 8-camera production, with many Bonus Features (extra performance, photo gallery and more), showcases the musician’s legendary musical prowess with his core ensemble and the 60-piece Szczecin Technical University Choir in performances that prove both captivating and spiritually moving.

Arkadia DVD is proud to present Billy Harper in Concert: Live from Poland with his core ensemble (Francesca Tanksley, Piano; Clarence Seay, Bass; Newman Taylor Baker, Drums; Piotr Wojitasik, Trumpet, who plays with Harper when he performs in Poland), and featuring the 60-piece Szczecin Technical University Choir. A truly a special evening.
