Humanity First Leading Technological Advances in Liberia and Guyana

Silver Spring, MD, August 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- From addressing the technological and educational needs of Liberia and Guyana to the recognition of Qatar’s valiant relief efforts, Humanity First has had an active year thus far.

Beginning early this year in Monrovia, Liberia, Humanity First Liberia (HFL) launched its very first computer school in Liberia in cooperation with Humanity First Institute of Computer Studies (HFICS). HF efforts have enabled the purchase and shipment of computers to Liberia, and the development of course curriculum, ultimately sowing the seeds of a professional IT team. The hope is that students of the computer school will use their new skills to support themselves and their families.

Valued at $25,000 US the five-year computer and technology training program enrolled 90 students at the very outset of its opening, and it is estimated that approximately 700 students will have begun training by the end of the school’s first year. In pursuit of the educational goals and aspirations of Liberia’s technical advancement as outlined by Yonton Kesselly, Liberia’s Assistant Minister or Professional and Technical Education, HFL’s objective in launching such a program is to introduce professional computer and technological training.

A similar computer school and program was also established in Guyana in February. Offering seven courses, the school has currently enrolled twenty-five students. With greater resources funneling into the school, it is expected that the program will expand greatly in the near future.

The freshly trained IT professionals in both Liberia and Guyana will play a pivotal role in rebuilding the economies of their countries by providing much needed technical support.
