Soderstrom Architects Promotes Four

Soderstrom Architects, a leading Portland-based architecture, planning and interior design firm, has recently announced the promotion of Marlene Gillis, Mike Shea, and Dan Van Calcar to Principal. The firm also announces the promotion of Kim Olson to Associate.

Portland, OR, August 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- “We are both excited and proud to recognize these four individual’s accomplishments and this also marks an important milestone for the firm in that it represents the beginning of a new generation of Principal level leadership. Each has stood out in their true commitment to design excellence and to the success of the firm by creating valuable and lasting client relationships. They each are extremely deserving of this elevation in leadership,” said Dan Danielson, Managing Partner at Soderstrom.

Marlene Gills AIA, LEED AP BD+C , CSI CCS, a senior project manager and Certified Construction Specifier, has been promoted to Principal. Returning to Soderstrom Architects three years ago, she has directed the design of many exceptional projects for the firm, including the construction of a LEED Gold for Healthcare major medical office building adaptive reuse project, as well as the first new medical school built in Oregon in over 100 years. With a strong emphasis on community involvement, she has volunteered extensively with students of all ages, from elementary through high school, fostering the development of the next generation's passion for design.

Mike Shea AIA, LEED AP has been serving as a senior project manager and is also being promoted to Principal. Mike joined Soderstrom in 2008, working on higher education projects and offering extensive sustainable design knowledge and strategies on projects. Mike has also been a speaker at US Green Building Council events in Portland and Seattle. As Principal at Soderstrom, Mike will help expand the firm’s commitment to LEED and high visibility Higher Education projects.

Dan Van Calcar AIA For the last ten years he has been directing medical projects at Soderstrom Architects. His technical understanding of the design and construction of healthcare facilities has allowed him to successfully collaborate with some of the firm’s most significant clients including work for Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna Alaska. As Principal he will continue his pursuit of design excellence in the Healthcare arena.

Kim Olson, AIA is a registered architect with 10 years of experience and is being promoted to Associate. Olson has proven herself as a true leader in the firm’s healthcare practice and has also worked on a wide range of projects including higher education and has been a team member on several LEED projects. Her strong organizational skills have helped her manage complex projects, teams and deadlines. Her holistic approach and meticulous attention to detail assure high quality work.
