First-Ever Interactive Comedic Musical, Lily Ann's "LOVE YOU!" Opens in West Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA, September 04, 2013 --(PR.com
)-- Just when everyone is upset about original musicals dying, being supplanted by the Studios turning their film catalogues into musicals, producing an original musical independently might be a Herculean feat for most: But for award-winning Los Angeles playwright Lily Ann, bringing her newest contemporary work--the first-ever all-ages interactive comedic musical, "LOVE YOU!"--to West L.A.'s Black Box Theatre, it's just another first in a colorful career of milestones for this multi-talented Scribe of the Stage.
The first playwright known to have penned not only the book, but the music & lyrics for all her contemporary original, commercial musicals, as well, Lily Ann also changed the face of modern Musical Theatre by being the first dramatist to, out of necessity, use pre-recorded "canned" scoring she'd written to accompany her singers onstage--the same singers whom she later insisted use microphones, yet another first for Musical Theatre.
Recently dubbed "CHOICE OF THE WEEK" by Pasadena Weekly's John Sollenberger as it concluded a 4-week run at The World Famous Ice House, "LOVE YOU!"'s Black Box Theater production features a cast of eight talented young actor/singers and a score of 16 original Pop, Rock, Country, R&B and World Beat songs, all of which are what the playwright likes to call "radio-ready."
"Being at Pasadena's Ice House afforded me the opportunity to test the show at the best comedy club around & the lower what's known as the 4th Wall of Theatre," shares the playwright, heralded by The Hollywood Reporter as "an outstanding musical writer" for her first musical on the legit stages of Los Angeles. "With 'Love You!' we're doing something completely original and entirely different, something that's never been done before in a family-friendly, all-ages original musical," Lily Ann shared with The San Gabriel Valley Tribune's Michelle Mills.
LilyAnn's "LOVE YOU!" previewed Saturday, August 31st at 8 p.m., at The Black Box Theatre, 12420 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, officially opening to Press the following Saturday, September 7th, with its VIP Industry Party September 14th. Performances run Saturdays consecutively thereafter through October 12th. Admission is $20, and for reservations, call (818) 220-4326, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
