Vaughan, Canada, September 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing global Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-sized business-to-consumer companies, announces its top strategies for decreasing a web site’s bounce rate and, by extension, increasing conversions.

“Bounce rate” is a term that refers to the percentage of visitors who leave a web site’s landing page (home page) without navigating to any other pages on the site. A high bounce rate indicates that there are either problems with the actual web page, or that users are leaving because the site offers no real value.

“Providing visitors with original, informative content, such as articles, blogs, videos, and infographics, is an excellent way to not just keep users engaged, but to encourage them to explore more of the site,” says Nadia Iaboni, digital solutions manager at Numero Uno Web Solutions. “At the same time, there are a number of design strategies that some brands employ that actually increase bounce rates.”

The way a web site is laid out, whether it’s being accessed on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or personal computer, can either encourage or discourage user interaction, Iaboni notes. To provide the best user experience, build customer loyalty, and improve conversion rates, businesses need to ensure their sites are easy to navigate on any device or screen size. In comparison, a web site that is difficult to navigate could leave the impression that the business is disorganized.

“On top of that, when users first visit a site, they look for specific information, including the business name, logo, and contact information. Surprisingly, 44% of smaller business homepages do not include a phone number, making it difficult for consumers to contact them,” Iaboni says. At the same time, she explains, some users never get the chance to see the contact information, because the first thing they are hit with when they visit a site is a pop-up window. While a pop up can help with conversion rates, covering the screen with one can increase bounce rates. To decrease bounce rates, it’s important to know when and where to place them, says Iaboni.

“Online users have very little patience when it comes to waiting for a web site to load. The more videos, images, script, and pop-ups a site has, the slower it will load and the higher the bounce rate,” Iaboni concludes. “If users can’t find the information they need from one site, they’ll find another one that does have it.”
