)-- Elevate Training and Development Ltd; a UK based learning centre has released Mental Capacity Act and DOLS learning activity for social workers undertaking continuing professional development. The company has opened a new e-course on mental capacity act and deprivation of liberty safeguards for a limited number of social work practitioners and social care workers.
When contacted, Emman Sioco from the company said, “We are providing a complete and effective course to the learners. The training method in our e-course is based on the results of excellent practice and the PCF’s (performance capability framework) for social workers, which are held on the college of social work website.”
According to the sources, the learning activity can add to CQC, HCPC and other learning standards as proof of achievement. Emman further added, “This learning method can help people in many ways. If they finish the course successfully they can use it as evidence of continuing professional development as a registered social worker with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council), as well as obtaining a certificate of CPD from us.”
The course has several learning objectives including helping workers understand the major principles of the MCA, knowing the role of other professionals and agencies in DOLS and helping one recognize the need of a deprivation of liberty authorisation. The objectives are also helpful to understand the procedure of applying for an authorisation.
Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards is a six month learning activity particularly appropriate for social workers with added reflective log, registered manager and untrained social care workers. The learning activity includes case studies and scenarios, communication e-course, workbook and research among others. The learning material on MCA and DOLS is the copyright of Elevate centre that has used accessible resources from SCIE, the website of the Office of the Public Guardian and the health department among others.
