)-- There will be plenty of activity on the campus of American International College this weekend as hundreds of AIC alumni return for Homecoming 2013. The former students will get a taste of current student life on Friday, Oct. 26, as they sit in on classes, and eat with students in the Dining Commons. In the evening there will be a pep rally in the Butova Gymnasium and a special dinner for the Class of 1988.
Also Friday evening, Springfield natives Kevin Collins and Michael Bailey will be among the 10 former athletes inducted into the American International College Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place Friday, Oct. 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the O'Donnell Hall of Fame Room in the Metcalf Gymnasium.
Heather Cahill, Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement, said the weekend is important not just for former students but current students and the college, as well. "Homecoming represents the best of AIC... the camaraderie, the friendships, and the networking that happen during this weekend bring together alumni and students in a very meaningful way."
AIC athletics take center stage on Sat. Oct. 27, as AIC alumni baseball and football teams compete in the morning before the AIC football, women's field hockey, women's soccer and men's ice hockey teams go into action.
AIC President Vince Maniaci will meet with returning alumni at a continental breakfast, and the AIC Alumni Varsity Club will hold their annual barbecue. At noon, there will be a special ceremony to honor AIC veterans, and in the evening a dinner for the class of 1963.
The AIC theater group will present a short play, a celebration and study of alumni commitment to the college. Current and former members of the Garret Players will be on hand for the performance, which takes place at 8:00 p.m. in the Griswold Theatre.
