Reticare, the First Ocular Protector for Electronic Device Screens to Launch at CES 2014 from Booth #31653, LVCC South Hall 3

Las Vegas, NV, January 12, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Reticare, a unique product developed jointly by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and Sustainable & Responsible Technology LLC of Beverly Hills, California, will launch at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week. Reticare is the first-ever ocular shield for screens of electronic devices that protects the retina while preventing Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Studies show that Reticare improved retinal cell survival by up to 83%. Additionally, Reticare improves visual comfort, reduces eyestrain, and absorbs part of the most energetic radiation of the light emitted by screens from electronic devices.

The Reticare booth will showcase the product in use on several platforms including the Vexia line of Navlets, Zipper Tabs and Zipper Phones. It will also allow visitors the opportunity to experience the effects of electronic device screens on the human ocular system. Reticare further aims to reinforce USA and Latin America distribution to provide ocular shields and protection on devices throughout the Americas.

The human eye is not prepared to stare directly at a light source, but rather uses light to see. LED-backlit devices, such as cell-phones, tablets and laptops, are light sources and images are projected onto the unprotected eyes of users. The American Optometric Association uses the term CVS to identify the group of ocular symptoms (temporary myopia, eyestrain, dry and irritated eyes, etc.) that impact 80% of all types of screen device users.

Results of recent studies conducted by UCM and Dr. Celia Sánchez-Ramos, an expert on ocular phototoxicity, have shown that part of the LED light emitted by electronic device screens can damage retinal cells. Without adequate protection, a large amount of pigmentary retinal cells of human donors died after exposure to direct LED radiation emitted by this type of light. The studies also revealed that children and young adults are most susceptible to retinal damage, as they lack the natural protection that the human body progressively acquires through pigmentation of the lens. This research has led to the development of Reticare.

Reticare ocular shields are compatible with a large variety of screens and can be integrated into a product or added after-market. A full list of compatible smartphones, tablets, video game consoles, and laptops is available at www.reticare.us. Users can select between four different protection levels: intensive, high, medium and low, according to factors such as age and device exposure time.

Reticare has signed distribution agreements with European retailers Carrefour and El Corte Inglés. Reticare was recognized as the most innovative product of the year and was awarded the Orbyt 2013 Special Award by Spain’s leading newspaper, El Mundo.
