About Luz L. Valdes
Ms. Valdes has over 50 years experience in the education field. She is an Educator at the University of New Mexico/Key Women Educators-Delta Kappa Gamma International. She has taught ESL, GED, Reading and Spanish to children and adults. Ms. Valdes also served as a Bilingual Director of an Adult Reading Lab in Buffalo, New York and in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Currently, she teaches adult continuing education Spanish courses. She is affiliated with Delta Kappa Gamma. Dr. Valdes was born in Havana, Cuba. She obtained a B.A. from SUNY Buffalo in 1972, a M.A. in Adult and Secondary Education in 1981 and M.C.R.P. in 1994, both from the University of New Mexico. Previously, she served as the Past President of the Gamma Chapter of the International Reading Association. Dr. Valdes was also a Bilingual Resource Teacher with the Albuquerque Public Schools from 2003-2009. She is quite proud of her intense contribution to society via teaching, educating and encouraging students to have a love for learning in order to become better citizens of the world. She feels very strongly that education opens doors to everyone for a better life. Dr. Valdes married Edward B. Norris, now deceased, on February 14, 1975. In her spare time she enjoys reading, swimming, dancing, travel and teaching.
