The 11th Annual Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic will take over the Big League Dreams complex in Cathedral City, Calif., February 20-23, 2014. The tournament features 35 of the nation’s top NCAA Division I softball programs, playing 87 games over five fields and four days. Tickets are currently on sale at MaryNutterClassic.com

Five of the eight teams that played in the 2013 NCAA Women’s College World Series are among this year’s Mary Nutter Classic field, including defending NCAA Champion Oklahoma, runner-up Tennessee, semifinalists Texas and Washington, and Nebraska, which finished tied for seventh.

Tennessee is the top-ranked team in both the NFCA and ASA/USA Softball pre-season Top-25 polls. Oklahoma will feature junior Lauren Chamberlain, who is on pace to shatter the NCAA’s career home run record.

Previously known as the Palm Springs Classic and Cathedral City Classic, the tournament was re-named in 2013 to honor Mary Nutter, a pioneer in coaching education, who passed away in 2012. Nutter was a successful collegiate coach at Pittsburg State (Kan.) before forming her own business in 1987, conducting softball coaching clinics throughout the United States.

This year’s field includes 13 teams that are ranked in the preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 or the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Polls: No. 1/1 Tennessee, No. 2/2 Oklahoma, No. 5/3 Washington, No. 8/8 Oregon, No. 9/9 Nebraska, No. 10/10 Texas, No. 11/11 Texas A&M, No. 13/16 UCLA, No. 16/18 Baylor, No. 17/14 Missouri, No. 19/17 LSU, No. 20/22 Stanford, and No. 24/24 California. Additional teams in the field include: Arizona, Boise State, BYU, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Fordham, Fresno State, LIU Brooklyn, Long Beach State, Maryland, New Mexico, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Pacific, San Diego State, Syracuse, UC Davis, UNLV, and Virginia.

The 2014 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic weekend will open with a game between the USSSA Pride team of the National Pro Fastpitch league vs. the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. That game will take place on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at 6 p.m., with free admission.

Collegiate games begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, as Virginia faces BYU and Notre Dame faces Pacific. Adult tickets are $60 for a tournament pass, valid all four days. Daily tickets are $20 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and $1 for children (10 and under) for Thursday. Friday-Sunday daily tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $5 for children.
