Largo School Celebrates National Bike to School Day

Largo, FL, April 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- A Largo, Florida school will celebrate National Bike to School Day on Wed., May 7, 2014. The Largo Police Department and Clearwater accident attorney and bicycle safety advocate, Jim Dodson, are hosting the event, which will teach bike safety to elementary aged students from a Largo elementary school.

On the day of the event, students will meet at Publix on West Bay Drive in Largo at 7:30 a.m. Jim Dodson will provide each participant with a small breakfast. Each rider will have their bicycle inspected for safety by a specialist from Chainwheel Drive in Clearwater. Their helmets will be fitted by a certified helmet specialist from Jim Dodson Law. Each participant will then ride their bicycle to the elementary school, which is about half a mile south of the Publix parking lot. Largo Police Department will provide traffic enforcement to ensure each participant arrives safely to their destination by 8:30 a.m.

National Bike to School Day was created by the League of American Bicyclists in May 2012 in order to teach children bicycling safety. Each year about 1000 schools in 49 states celebrate National Bike to School Day which kicks off National Bike Safety Month.

“Florida is one of the most dangerous states for bicycling safety. It’s critically important for children to know and understand how to ride their bicycle safely and why it’s so important for them to wear a bike helmet whenever they ride. We want every child to experience the thrill of riding a bike and doing it safely,” said Jim Dodson.

“We will be giving away free bicycle headlights and taillights to the students and don’t have them on their bike or who need a new one,” said Sergeant George Edmiston, Largo Traffic Enforcement Officer.

Parents are welcomed to attend. For more information on the event, please call Kati at (727) 446-0840 or email kati@jwdodsonlaw.com.
