Saline, MI, May 07, 2014 --(PR.com
)-- The two Saline High School fiddle groups, Fiddlers ReStrung and Saline Fiddlers, are joining forces under the name “Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic.” The management of both groups agree that a combined organization will be stronger and avoid duplicating efforts. The public will be better served by a single group, eliminating the confusion that has often resulted from the existence of two separate high school fiddle groups in Saline. In addition, the student members of the new Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic will benefit from the talent of two Artistic Directors. Fiddlers ReStrung Artistic Director, Jimmy Whitman, and Saline Fiddlers Artistic Director, Brad Phillips, share similar management styles and complement each other’s areas of expertise. Whitman and Phillips are excited about sharing the leadership role with the exceptional student musicians involved in fiddling.
Fiddle music in Saline began in 1994 under the tutelage of Bob Phillips (no relation to Brad Phillips), then a Saline High School orchestra teacher, with assistance from his wife, Pam. This original group was named Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic. Bob’s desire in establishing the group was to provide an opportunity for the music students in Saline to experience the energy and passion of early fiddle music. He also wanted the students to share their music through performances for the public, which included appreciative audiences throughout the United States and abroad. In the past twenty years dozens of students and their families have brought Bob’s vision to countless communities.
The new Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic will begin public performances in August. Until then, the students will continue to play engagements and tour Michigan under their current names.
